Q: Should I still take the 40 MG Nexium before a gi endoscopy in 2 weeks?
In 2 weeks, I am going to have an endoscopy since I have gerd. They are going to check for inflammations and other structures in the gastro system. I have been on Nexium for around 2 months now, but I still continue to have reflux symptoms (heartburn & regurgitation). If I keep taking Nexium for the 2 weeks the procedure, would it affect the accuracy of the test?
A: Call the office of the doctor who ordered the test and ask the staff this question. It is too important to trust to the answers from lay strangers on the Internet.
Q: Can you take nexium 40 mg , zantac 150mg and mylanta ?
Does anyone know if its safe to take all three of these meds together, i know you can take the nexium and zantac for extreme cases of heartburn but is it safe to take the mylanta along with it. I still have extremly bad burning in my chest and back and under my armpits and breatbone?
A: take the nexium and zantac together, but wait at least one hour after or two hours before to take the mylanta. Mylanta will block the absorption of the other meds. There is no harmful interaction, it's just that mylanta or maalox coat the digestive tract and prevent the absorption of other meds.
Q: my cat ate a nexium pill (purple 40 mg) i called poison control and she said my cat will be fine?
is the poison control lady telling me the truth?? she ate it about a half hour ago. i pulled it out of her mouth and saw she ate half of it already.
yeah its not my pill, its my fat ass lazy moms and im always picking up pills that she drops....
A: Did you call poison control for humans, or the special one for animals? If it was the human one, then you need to verify this with a line that specializes in animals. Call your local emergency vet if you want to validate what you've been told.
Q: Hi guys could anyone tell me how much does nexium 40 mg cost in india?
A: I do not know friend but that little purple pill studies at UCLA have shown actually is addictive becausew the pill GIVES you wors condition of the original problem. Seriously. Let me go dig out that article. The stuff is pur poison and the Big Pharma knows it, i.e. they KNOw that you take it and then get worse without it. Do yourself a favor and do a slow gentle taper off.
Q: Is Adderall 15mg twice a day and Wellbutrin 300 XL mg okay to take together?
along with nexium 40 mg a day?
A: call your Dr or the pharmacist. even if you got them from the dr they sometimes miss things in your chart if they gave them at differant times, by all means check with someone, they even have a med site on msn home page. health the answer might be there
Q: How should I take nexium prescription of 80 mg daily?
One dose of 80 mg once a day or two doses of 40 mg twice a day?
A: Your physician should have advised you as to how he/she wanted you to take the medications as well as written the script accordingly. I'm assuming he/she wrote the script to read, "80 mg daily" instead of one once or twice a day. Call your physician and ask how you are to take the medication. It can mean the difference of an effective medication versus one that's barely or not working at all for you.
Q: Does Nexium cause bone pain?
I have several issues with my stomach and was put on Nexium 40 mg/day by my doc. Three days into taking this med I developed bone pain in my pelvis and femurs. During activity (ex. skiing) the pain was debilitating. A pharmacist advised me to stop taking the Nexium. Sure enough three days off of it and my bone pain is completely gone. My doctor is unconvinced, but I don't want to take this med if it's causing this pain...any advice/similar experience?
A: it's a great medication for GERD and other gastro problems.
It never gave me any debilitating side effects but that's not
to say that you are not feeling some.
I did stop taking Nexium only because it's quite expensive and
I my doctor put me on something else less expensive.......
Q: Psyllium husk Before taking Nexium 10 mins b4 (Breakfast)?
I am 20 years old and had an ENDOSCOPY 2 days back. I've been diagnosed with Small Hiatus Hernia and prescribed NEXIUM 40 MG 10 MINS BEFORE BREAKFAST, PEPCID 20 MG BEDTIME....I am having constipation now.....WHen shall I eat Psyllium husk before taking NEXUIM or at bedtime after PEPCID , coz I know it'll help me....And can I eat MC'VITIES DIGESTIVE biscuits????Please do reply!
A: The point of nexium is to prevent the acid reflux from happening in the first place. Therefore it will make sense to take nexium half an hour before a meal so that the drug can get into your body first so that when you eat your meal, the amount of acid would be reduced.
Your doctor instructed nexium in the morning which is fine. If your heart burn is worst at night, take it half hour before dinner. Nexium blocks the acid pump, therefore prevents acid from being pumped into your stomach. Pepcid blocks histamine which serves as a signal to pump acid into your stomach. Nexium is far superior to Pepcid and your body can become tolerant to pepcid over time (reversable when stopped though).
Now for constipation. Psillium will help with constipation only if you drink enough water with it. The additional bulk in your gut helps stimulate your intestines to move. However, if you don't drink enough water it will do the opposite and cause CONSTIPATION. Psillium can be used as anti-diarrheal or constipating agent depending on the amount of water you consume.
To answer your question, Psyllium is best taken with breakfast and yes, you can have the biscuits.

Q: What can cause a fasting blood sugar of only 63, if nothing has been found to be wrong w/you medically?
This is after 12 hours of fasting. I am 35 years old and slightly overweight (need to lose 20 pounds and working on it). There is no history of diabetes on either side of my family. I take Dilantin 100 mg twice daily; Synthroid 0.25 mg daily; and Nexium 40 mg daily. One thing, though: me and my dad's side of the family love to eat candy such as Red Hots and Bit-O-Honey. I am on Weight Watchers, but I work such candy in every single day. Maybe my pancreas produces too much insulin in response to eating sweets? Every other medical problem has been ruled out. Also, recently, I had a random blood sugar done right after I ate pancakes with syrup and orange juice, and my blood sugar was only in the lower 90s.
A: I don't understand the concern unless your doctor is concerned. Usually there is no concern over a fasting blood sugar unless it is below 40 mg/dL...and you are quite a bit higher than 40 mg/dL. While most labs consider a normal fasting blood sugar to be 70 to 100 mg/dL, a low result often isn't an issue unless it drops below 40 mg/DL.
As to what can cause a low fasting blood sugar:
hypothyroidism
malnutrition
diabetic medication
liver disease
kidney failure
pituitary gland tumor
Addison's disease

Since yesterday morning, I have difficulty in breathing and pain in upper right chest part.
Cud anybody please advise natural treatment/cure about hiatal hernia?

Besides the lifestyle changes and exercises recommended from the site above, you can drink Caraway tea. It really helps.
Make a tea of 1 tsp. of Caraway seeds and 8 ounces of boiling water. Let steep for 8 to 10 minutes, and drink after meals.
As far as stomach ulcers, I found a wonderful article from eHow on stomach ulcers. I used to have ulcers myself, and most of these remedies really do help.
Here is the link to the article:

1. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, particularly juices. A healthy raw food diet is the most important ingredient in natural remedies, particularly those effecting digestion. It is important that you eat foods that your body can easily digest, ensuring that you receive all of the vitamins and minerals your body need to maintain balance.
2. Limit the triggers that cause hyperacidity in the stomach to prevent and soothe stomach ulcers. Things such as spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, tobacco and overeating can increase the levels of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, causing and worsening peptic ulcers.
3. Eat bananas, one of Mother Earth's best natural remedies for stomach ulcers. Bananas neutralize the hydrochloric acid in the stomach, reducing the painful symptoms of peptic ulcers. Eat two bananas with a glass of milk three times a day to soothe acid reflux and prevent further aggravation.
4. Make an infusion of wood apple leaves to relieve pain and discomfort caused by stomach ulcers. Soak 15g of wood apple leaves in 250 ml of water overnight. The next morning, strain the leaves from the water and drink.
5. Drink fenugreek tea twice a day to protect the lining of the stomach and intestines. Fenugreek seeds, used in many natural remedies, are highly mucilaginous and will coat the stomach and intestines as they pass through your body, both preventing and soothing stomach ulcers. Boil one cup of water and remove from heat. Add 1 tsp. of fenugreek seeds, allowing to steep for 5 minutes before straining and drinking.
6.Reduce stress, which can trigger peptic ulcers. Get lots of gentle exercise to help relax and eliminate toxins from the body. Getting regular massage, practicing yoga, meditation or Tai Chi can all help reduce your stress and help prevent further problems from stomach ulcers.
Personally, I drank cabbage juice, aloe vera and chlorophyll (not all mixed together. Drank separately throughout the day.)
Most pharmacies carry chlorophyll and aloe vera. Juice the cabbage yourself using a juicer, and drink 4- 4oz. glasses a day. Here is an article from the Happy Juicer that explains this:

I hope this helps!

Q: help me with my out of control acid reflux please?
I was diagnosis with Gerd a few years ago. I take Nexium 40 mg twice a day, Regalin 3 times a day and Carafate liquid.
Why am I still suffering? I don't eat the fun foods that I love, I drink one cup, if that of Simply Smooth coffee in the am.... I still have a terrible choking feeling in my throat, I am still coughing acid.
It's really driving me crazy... I am losing weight to help, I have a little tummy, but I am not obese... I mean I see huge people pack away stuff and never suffer... why me? What can do? Any home remedies out there that are tried and true?
Erica
A: Your esophogus may be eroding so much and closing. You might want to have an endoscopy done where they will insert a tube in through your mouth and down to your stomach. If your esophogus is closing, they will be able to push it back out. I have about the same problems and take almost the same meds & I too am not even close to being overweight and I'm only 24! After my procedure, I also have Gastritis.
Q: Can I incorporate ginger into my anti-GERD diet?
I also take Nexium 40 mg once in the morning. I'm talking two ginger snaps, plus one piece of soft ginger candy from the health food store, per day. I've read everywhere that ginger has good digestive properties, as well as works as a mild reflux remedy.
A: Nothing helps my tummy feel better than to have some ginger ale. I'm not sure how much ginger you are getting in the ginger snap cookies. I like to eat candied pieces of ginger. They can be quite spicy, but do help with a tummy ache and I suppose reflux too. I have GERD, too..
Q: Help, What's left that I can tolerate with acid reflux?
Hi I'm having a really bad flare up of my acid reflux even though I'm on Nexium 40 mg a day with mylanta inbetween 5 times a day.The chest pain , lump in my throat and burning is driving me crazy, I can't have coffee, milk , soda, juice, tea. Is water the only thing left?Would some of you other suffers comment what you can eat and drink without setting your acid reflux in a tail spin?
Thanks for all the answers, it's obvious a lot of people have this problem.
A: I probably can't be much help, but I suffer the same way. Just last night I woke up with what seems like a cold and acid reflux at the same time! My throat was killing me! Since then it's gotten better.
But the first time I realized I had a problem like GERD I was very concerned. However, after staying on prevacid for a long time, it eventually faded. Now it just comes back every so often. Here lately it is worse, but I'm still fighting it.
As far as what you can eat or drink, definitely water. It seems like water even bothered me some, but it was probably just when it went by the tear in my esophagus. I've just read that you should eat mild foods and drink things without caffeine and alcohol in them. Good luck!
Q: Difference between Controloc and Nexium?
I have been on Controloc 40 mg for the past 3 or 4 months and I don't feel my duodenal ulcer getting any better. Is Nexium better than controloc or both are the same?
Did any one use Nexium and felt better?
A: They are both in the same class of medicines. One isn't necessarily "better" than the other. There's no way to tell (without a trial) if a medicine will work better (than another) for a patient.
Ask your doctor about trying Nexium.
Q: How long does it take for Nexium to begin working? I've been on it for a week now.?
I've been taking 40 MG, once a day, but I still have a continuous bad taste in my mouth, heartache, clearing of throat after meals, and sometimes numbness in my left arm (I DON'T have heart problems). One other note though... My seasonal allergies have flared up so I have a lot of post nasal drip, which can't be helping matters.
A: Incompetence of the lower esophageal sphincter allows reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus, causing burning pain. Prolonged reflux may lead to esophagitis, stricture, and rarely metaplasia. Diagnosis is clinical, sometimes with endoscopy, with or without acid testing. Treatment involves lifestyle modification, acid suppression using proton pump inhibitors, and sometimes surgery.
Esomeprazole is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and injury of the esophagus (food pipe between the mouth and stomach). Esomeprazole is used to treat the symptoms of GERD, allow the esophagus to heal, and prevent further damage to the esophagus. It is also used with other medications to prevent stomach ulcers. Esomeprazole is in a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
Certain foods and lifestyle are considered to promote gastroesophageal reflux:
* Coffee, alcohol, and excessive amounts of Vitamin C supplements are stimulants of gastric acid secretion. Taking these before bedtime especially can promote evening reflux. Calcium containing antacids are in this group.
* Foods high in fats and smoking reduce lower esophageal sphincter competence, so avoiding these tends to help, as well. Fat also delays emptying of the stomach.
* Having more but smaller meals also reduces the risk of GERD, as it means there is less food in the stomach at any one time.
* avoid eating for 2 hours before bedtime
* avoid soft drinks
* avoid chocolate and peppermint
* avoid spicy foods
* avoid acidic foods like oranges and tomatoes (however, they are okay when fresh.)
* avoid cruciferous vegetables: onions, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts
* milk and milk-based products contain calcium and fat, so should be avoided before bedtime
Please see the web pages for more details on Esomeprazole (generic name) Nexium (brand name) and GERD.
